A Cultural Afternoon in Kauhajoki – Saturday 12.09.2026

For our next Wiise outing, we’re heading outside Seinäjoki for a relaxed afternoon of history, culture and café life in Kauhajoki.

Our first stop will be the Kauhajoki Parliament Museum (Eduskuntamuseo), a unique place in Finnish history. During the Winter War, the Finnish Parliament moved from Helsinki to Kauhajoki, where it continued its work from December 1939 until February 1940. The Parliament held 34 sessions there, and today the museum preserves the historic session hall and materials from this remarkable period.

After the museum visit, we’ll head into the centre of Kauhajoki for coffee and waffles at Katjan Vohvelikahvila. The cosy café is known for its handmade sweet and savoury waffles, as well as other baked treats and specialty coffees. The café opened in 2021, following owner Katja Mäntyniemi’s long-time dream of having her own café and her experience on the Finnish baking TV programme Koko Suomi leipoo.

It will be a simple afternoon away from our usual surroundings, a little local history, good food, and time together in Kauhajoki.
